Typhoon Aftermath

After 2am  Odette left Cebu for good, we slept soundly until the sunrise came into view.

I woke and rise up and went to the rooftop to check everything as early as I can. Even the lack of sleep won't stop me from moving onto what I need to do.

I am already at the top of the building and this is what we saw!
I checked the rooftop 2am midnight earlier but that was too dark, this time it is on daylight
taken at the building, rooftop, Taboan. Dec. 17, 2021 8:22am!

Surprisingly debris and all the utensils we have really was broken into pieces, our dirty kitchen look like being beaten by a tornado.  One side of the main door of the house we live is wide open. So, I went in and walk pass some pieces of garbage check on the upper level directly of that house where we live. I step slowly, then there, I was happy all things are still intact just like how it look like the night we left. I say a word and said "Thank you Lord".

Richard rose up also and followed me to the rooftop to see everything. Then in a minute or two he instruct me to start clearing the place and clean it partially.

This is how it looked like after we partially cleared and cleaned it!
Seems like nothing happened.

We notice that still there was no power, thinking it might get light up in a couple of hours or so. We continue clearing and cleaning. We need to conserve water also. Good thing our two 1000 liters overhead tanks are full. Our only problem was, the deep well is only powered by 1/2 horse power Electric Goulds Pump. No jetmatic pump or the so cold manu manu. So, no way we are going to have water for long if we don't save.

After cleaning, I fix  bread and hot choco milk drink for our breakfast.

Then time ran fast, we then also had our lunch.

I cook Tapol (Red) Rice, and cooked everything that was left inside the freezer.
Without Electricity soon, the frozen meat products will get rotten, we might as well cook
and eat them right a way!
Chorizo and Buttered Chicken fillet shared by Richard.

In the afternoon, Richard and I went out to see the road and start to look for a water source just in case the power won't be back right away.

We saw debris, falling tree branches, broken poles and wires on every road we pass on to. Like a normal day people are roaming around. I saw some buy food, household necessities from stores and malls.

The weirdest part is that at the gasoline stations, people lined up to get their vehicles filled up that cause heavy traffic as some try to get in and double parked almost hinder the whole road.

In most areas it is very chaotic, I mean the road doesn't have any enforcers on duty. To this day hours after the typhoon left damages we don't expect any. We don't even see anyone from the government agencies and electric power companies clearing the road, we assume people and citizens clear off the road near to their spot voluntarily. A very disappointing fact. Very unsafe, they use only bolos with their own hands and power to break branches that obstruct the way. We saw all that because they let us pass thru. But in worst areas, roads are closed and blocked.  Due to extreme trees and big tree branches lying on the streets. Some tree branches even destroy some cars parked under. Car Insurance companies will cry in the next day or two.

cleared off by citizens living near it!

One of the cars parked under a big tree and got destroyed. This one is not part of those insured cars though hehe but those brand new ones that are covered will make car insurance cry later!
Good thing no one was there under the tree and inside the car.

We also drove to Talisay and the SRP and these are the pictures and videos I got.

The sky is clear and blue the damages aren't visible with this one because I only took a picture of the good weather view but if you look closely you can see boats near the dike were ashore by the wind the night before. Take at SRP Dec. 17, 2021 4:31pm

The road is very chaotic, no street lights on crossings and no enforces, It was amazing no fatal accidents happen, it look almost like an organized chaos.

We thought positively that the electric power will be restored the day after but seeing all these in the afternoon of Dec 17 made us think it would take two weeks and more or maybe forever. Very sad that is.

The event always remind me of Ruping 31 years ago.

Before the night falls, no electricity still. We expect that it is going to be dark and black out in the whole Cebu island. Amazingly before the sun goes down I must say people are repairing their tin roofs since morning. Some had more, some just bought new ones. Hardware supplies are busy as people are buying cheap galvanized tin roofs and nails. I heard some Constructions supplies gave their tin roofs to the lowest price or give them away if there was damages. The bad ones also I heard, they doubled the price, supply and demand as they explained.

Roof repairs all day long!

The sound of the hammers hitting umbrella nails are echoing non-stop until dark.

I compile my pictures and videos of the aftermath on December 17, 2021 Friday!

Please watch, thank you!

Here in this part I would like to insert pictures and videos from friends again. We need to hear their stories also. Updates to this will be available soon.
